Caring For and Cleaning Your Sex Toys

Whether you are single, in a relationship or married happily, sex toys can bring a lot of excitement to the bedroom, no matter what the occasion may be. Improperly cleaned toys, however, can bring more to the party than you bargained for. Keep yourself (and your partner) healthy and happy both inside and outside the bedroom by making sure the toys you use are properly cleaned and maintained. After all, we all want our sex toys to last the long haul.

Today's sex toys are made from different materials, and each type of material needs a different sort of cleaning. For nearly anything, simple antibacterial soap and warm water cloth following every use is recommended. A good anti-bacterial toy cleaner is another great way to ensure your products stay clean and fresh. But, there are other things to consider.

Read Instructions & Product Specifications

First and foremost, always ensure to read the instructions that come with your product, as they often outline the manufacturer's recommendation with regards to cleaning and maintaining your products.

Glass Dildos and toys made of silicone can often be put into boiling water for two minutes to help kill any lingering bacteria, or even run through the dishwasher on the top shelf. Remember though, if you are ever thinking of submerging or wetting your product, always make sure that your product has a waterproof status though (check the product information page, packaging, or manual), as occasionally silicone vibrators can't be submerged, in which instance, an anti-bacterial toy cleaner is your best friend. Plastic and jelly toys can be wiped down with a wet cloth, or as per the above, an anti-bacterial toy cleaner. Always let the toys dry thoroughly before storing. Rubber toys are different because of their porous nature. We do recommend that condoms be used with rubber dildos, and they should be washed with antibacterial soap and water after every use regardless of whether a condom was used.

Toy Cleaners & Storage

Anti-bacterial toy cleaners are an excellent way of ensuring your toys stay clean and free from germs. They usually come with a spray on nozzle, so a few sprays on your sex toy after use and then allowing it to air dry is the way to go.

Once your toys are clean, they should also be properly stored and maintained. Always use lube meant for silicone toys when bringing them into the bedroom, and never store these types of toys in a drawer or other place where two or more can touch one another - they can actually bond together over time. Never store toys in bags or even in dresser drawers until they are dry. Storing a wet item could cause mold to grow, and that's a potential health hazard with which you never want to risk contact.

When it comes to maintenance, the life of anything that operates using batteries can be prolonged by simply removing the batteries between uses. This keeps them from running down and also totally removes the possibility that a battery can become old or burst inside the vibrator, spilling its chemicals inside the toy. And, of course, removing the batteries helps guarantee you will never be put into a situation where the vibrator accidentally turns itself on!

With proper care, cleaning and maintenance, your sex toys will be ready for use at a moment's notice. Taking special care of each toy based on its individual qualities and instructions is necessary, and will help keep things moving in the bedroom for a long time to come.
