Wearing socks in the sack is probably not the best way to make sure your hookup keeps returning for more or your long-term partner thinks you’re still the hottest thing around. Or is it? What if it turned out that keeping your socks on during sex actually improved the chances of climaxing? The idea of wearing socks has never sounded so sexy!

In a fun and quirky quick bit of news, we’ve found that’s just what Dutch researchers learned during a study at a University in Holland. Now, whilst it may seem a valid experiment, they weren’t necessarily setting out to study the effects of warm feet on orgasms. But in much the same way that Sir Alexander Fleming discovered penicillin entirely by accident, if perhaps slightly less significant for the survival of humankind, these scientists found that when they gave socks to their research subjects, those subjects achieved orgasm at a rate of about 80 percent! In contrast, the sock-free orgasm rate was a mere 50 percent.

So, what can we take away from this inadvertent and interesting discovery? As is so often the case, what looks sexy doesn’t always turn out to ignite the passions as much as we’d think, and something we might be quick to dismiss could be just the thing to take our sex life to a whole new level. Instead of acting on preconceived notions about what is and isn’t spicy, it is often worthwhile to find out what we really do enjoy. Speculation also has that it could also to do with just “being comfortable”, and socks provide great comfort and warmth to those little fingers on the end of our feet. In the meantime, if you’ve ever given a lover the cold shoulder for a sock-wearing infraction, it might just be time to call him or her up and see what it would take to work your way back into that person’s good graces!
